Metaphysical Practices
What is Metaphysics?
Webster's dictionary has a couple definitions for the word metaphysical that relate to the concepts being presented in this website: Pertaining to the word metaphysics, and another: beyond the the physical, incorporeal or supernatural. Metaphysics is defined as the branch of philosophy that treats of first principles. Includes ontology, cosmology, and is intimately connected with epistemology; philosophy in its more abstruse branches. When asked what is metaphysics, I would generally answer the study of the workings of the universe.
Metaphysics is widely criticized for not being a real science in the academic and medical world, and many scoff at concepts that fall under that category. On the other hand, yoga and meditation, Reiki energy healing, chanting and other corporeal practices have been part of many eastern cultures for centuries, and are known for their benefits. Venturing inward goes against the theology and ideology of the western world, where people are governed by views and paradigms that have been instilled into the social culture over centuries. In metaphysics, a being is viewed holistically as one system including mind, body, and spirit, and it's practice steers you towards a path of self-realization.
Metaphysical practices connect you to your inner self, and unify body, mind and spirit. I never felt better than when I started meditating. I often reflect and believe that I could have easily gone over the edge of rationality if I had not started the practice of meditation. In effect, it was a rebirth. These practices require diligence, discipline, and a focused dedication to self growth. The benefits are manifold! First, there's connection, then enlightenment, and an awakening. The balance obtained through yoga, tai chi, pagua, and other eastern practices, combined with meditation brings balance, which leads tremendously to good health.
