What is Holistic?
Holistic Living implies that one is living in harmony with nature, using natural products to nourish mind, body, and spirit. In choosing this path, individuals generally begin to look beyond themselves and become more understanding and tolerant of the people that surround them; reaching out to humanity in a quest to maintain peace and harmony spiritual well-being.
Holistic health is a concept in medical practice upholding that all aspects of people's needs, psychological, physical and social should be taken into account and seen as a whole. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holistic_health
In alternative medicines, the belief is that any dis-ease should be approached as a whole system, including, body, mind and spirit in order to find the source of ailment.
Many individuals have interpretations of holistic living, which lead to some controversy as to what it means to be holistic. Does it mean you have to vegetarian to live holistically? Many are curious about this. Does it mean that you have to eat Kosher? This can be a very difficult concept to explain without causing a stir, because sos many people believe that they have it right.
In many instances, people choose to become vegetarian for personal reasons. The inhumane way in which animals are slaughtered for marketing could be considered a good example of those reasons. Scientifically, when animals get pumped with adrenaline and go into a frightened mode during slaughtering, the endocrine system releases chemicals into their bodies. Does the meat becomes contaminated? Who knows? Nevertheless, many people who thrive to live in harmony with nature at some point refuse to eat animals slaughtered for consumption.
I see the holistic approach to life as something that blends very smoothly into one's life. Just take it easy; nourish your body caringly, connect with your inner self, and nourish your spirit with the goodness that prevails, like taking time to enjoy the smell roses and stimulate your soul. A caring attitude towards self and nature For example: do you pay attention to the chemicals that you are exposed to at any given time? That could be considered a basic holistic living.
